Where CMB Electric Came From
CMB Electric was founded in 2022 by Matt Farrier — a sixth-generation Montanan and the founder of Copper Mountain Builders, Kalispell's custom home construction company. After years of coordinating with outside electrical subcontractors on high-end builds, Matt saw the same problem repeatedly: quality control was only as good as whoever showed up. The solution was to build an electrical team from scratch, with the same standards and values that built Copper Mountain Builders.
CMB Electric is an independently licensed electrical contractor — a separate company from Copper Mountain Builders, with its own licensing, insurance, and operations. What we share is a founding philosophy: that honest work, clear communication, and genuine pride in the craft aren't optional extras. They're the baseline.
Today, CMB Electric serves homeowners, landlords, realtors, and small businesses across the Flathead Valley — not just construction clients. We brought in Robert Ray as General Manager and primary electrician to lead the field operation: 25 years in the trade, a master electrician license, and the kind of code expertise that comes from teaching it at the college level. The result is a small, capable electrical team that punches well above its size.

Robert Ray
Robert is CMB Electric's General Manager, primary electrician, and your main point of contact from the first call to the final walkthrough. With 25 years of hands-on experience across residential, commercial, and industrial electrical — including four years as Electrical Foreman at McMurdo Station in Antarctica — he brings a depth of expertise that's rare at any size company, let alone a focused local operation.Robert also teaches electrical code at Flathead Valley Community College and runs GEAR Montana, a state-approved electrical apprenticeship program. That background shapes how CMB Electric communicates: clearly, specifically, and without the jargon that leaves customers more confused than when you started
